What is a PRP?

A Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) helps individuals strengthen the life skills and emotional tools needed to thrive. PRP services are designed for people living with mental health challenges who want support in building stability, confidence, and independence.

At its core, PRP is about recovery in real life — learning how to manage stress, maintain housing, pursue employment or education, improve relationships, and feel more in control of your future. It is personalized, goal-focused support that meets people where they are and walks with them toward where they want to be.

PRP services are strengths-based and person-centered. They recognize that healing does not happen in isolation — it happens in community. At Helping Hands PRP, we believe recovery includes dignity, cultural awareness, and access to opportunities that allow people to live full and empowered lives.

Meet Our Founder, Gia Winfield

Gia Winfield (she/her) is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Helping Hands PRP, Inc., a CARF-accredited and licensed Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program serving adults, adolescents, and children in Baltimore City. Since opening its doors in 2018, Helping Hands PRP has remained committed to delivering high-quality, community-based mental health services rooted in dignity, empowerment, and long-term recovery.

An entrepreneur since the age of 18, Ms. Winfield has dedicated her career to expanding access to compassionate, structured support services for individuals living with mental health challenges. Before launching Helping Hands PRP, she established her first assisted living home for individuals with mental health disabilities. Within just one year, she successfully grew that vision into five assisted living facilities throughout the Baltimore City area — a testament to her leadership, operational excellence, and deep commitment to community care.

Under Ms. Winfield’s leadership, Helping Hands PRP has built a reputation for thoughtful program development, strong compliance standards, and person-centered service delivery. She and her team have overseen comprehensive programming across adult and children’s services, residential and community-based supports, employment readiness services, peer support programming, and Community Support Network services.

Ms. Winfield is widely recognized for her unwavering belief that recovery is possible when individuals are met with structure, opportunity, and respect. Her work continues to strengthen Baltimore’s behavioral health landscape by creating pathways to stability, independence, and hope for the communities she serves.

Ms. Winfield and Helping Hands PRP Inc. have been awarded by several institutions in Baltimore for contributing to the city's health landscape. She has been featured by Baltimore Magazine in their 2026 issue of "Women Who Move Maryland" and received an Agency Spotlight Award by the Mayor's Office of Homeless Services and Baltimore City Continuum of Care.
